Knowing what to do in an emergency can make all the difference to your horse’s welfare. Our Be the Best Owner You Can Be series has been created to give owners practical knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience in real-life situations.

This first event focuses on equine emergency first aid, combining expert guidance with practical learning in a supportive, hands-on environment.

What to Expect

✔ Emergency First Aid Essentials
Learn how to assess a situation calmly and effectively, what immediate actions to take, and how to stabilise your horse while waiting for veterinary support.

✔ Meet the Vets – Ask the Experts
You’ll have the opportunity to speak directly with vets from MacArthur Barstow and Gibbs Ria, gaining valuable insight into:

• When to monitor and manage at home
• When to call the vet immediately
• Common emergency scenarios and how vets approach them

✔ Hands-On Practical Sessions
Work with real horses to practise:

• Correct bandaging techniques
• Treating wounds and burns
• Applying dressings safely and effectively

✔ Pulling a Shoe – Practical Experience
Learn how and when to remove a shoe safely in an emergency. You’ll get hands-on practice using Cavada legs, giving you the confidence to act if needed.

No prior medical experience is required – just a willingness to learn.
